Beats or equals an average drummer every time. Then its exported as standard MIDI file to Sonar for 'groove quantizing'. I can sequence a 4 minute song with fills in the proper place in about 10 minutes. I do my drum sequencing in Band-In-A-Box. I have a Yamaha R8 that has this feature but I usually use the Sonar 3 software to add any 'groove quantizing' I want. if the SR-16 is lacking this feature, maybe you should be looking for a new drum machine with this feature. The difference wether its a 16 bit or a 24 bit sample is waaaaaaayy secondary in importance. Humanizing a drum sequence properly is 90% of how good a drum track sounds.
The best drum module money can buy can sound like shit if played mechanically. With the exception of Dance and Techno type music, a mechanical playing of drum sounds are not desireable. This is usually called 'groove quantizing'. I don't know if the SR-16 has this feature. When using sampled drum sounds, the most important feature to look for is the ability to 'humanize' the drum sequence. The DM5 or the DM Pro will be an upgrade to the SR-16, sound quality wise. The DM5 is an 18 bit and the DM Pro is a 20 bit.
